This photo is one I’ve long wanted to capture. Taken during sunrise at a pull-off on the Blue Ridge Parkway, this scene is inspired by one of my favorite film series, Blade Runner. I imagine the wide shots showing the dystopian worlds built by Ridley Scott and Denis Villeneuve and see this fitting as a vignette in an unspecified time before the first film’s setting. The haze of the skyline adds to the golden glow of the sun, and the shadows cast by the mountains help bring out the cinematic qualities of this photograph. Throw on the soundtracks by Vangelis or Hans Zimmer, close your eyes, and imagine a world before off-world colonization.
